In the picturesque vicinity of Zihuatanejo, we discovered a hidden gem – El Refugio de Potosi. This private ecological park, a sanctuary for the region’s flora and fauna, stands as a testament to the beauty and richness of nature.

Our adventure in the park was nothing short of extraordinary. We marveled at the variety of trails that meandered through the lush landscape, each leading us to a new discovery. The botanical exhibits offered a glimpse into the diverse plant life of the region, while the iguana enclosure and macaw perches brought us face-to-face with some of the park’s most colorful inhabitants.

The hummingbird feeders were aflutter with these tiny winged jewels, their iridescent colors catching the sunlight. The wildlife pond was a haven for a variety of regional birds, their songs filling the air with melody. Among the many wonders, the three adorable pygmy porcupines captured our hearts with their charm.

The park also boasts an 18-meter observation tower that offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. The sight of the 18-meter whale skeleton on display was a stark reminder of the vastness and diversity of life on our planet.

El Refugio de Potosi is the brainchild of Pablo Mendizabal and Laurel Patrick. Founded in 2008 as a non-profit organization, the park is a manifestation of their dream to promote conservation and education of native species. Their efforts to involve locals in park operations and raise awareness about biodiversity conservation are truly commendable.

If you find yourself in the area, we highly recommend a visit to El Refugio de Potosi. It’s not just a park; it’s an experience that brings you closer to nature and leaves you with a deeper appreciation for the world we live in.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to El Refugio de Potosi for their inspiring work and for giving us the opportunity to be a part of their mission. Here’s to the beauty of nature and the spirit of conservation! 🙌🌿🐾
